Name: Port City Cafe

Location: Biloxi, MS

Date: 09-25-24

Overall Rating (1-10): 6

Description:

Local Biloxi restaurant with a good variety of comfort food.  (Breakfast, Sandwiches, Blue Plates, Muffulettas, Po'boys, etc.) The food is nothing fancy, but cooked the way you do at home, just without the fuss and mess to clean up.

When you first walk in you notice the long diner style bar with fixed bar stools at the back of the restaurant with the cook line directly behind it.  This place was originally a Drug Store that had a soda fountain and burger counter.  The tables and chairs are a bit work, but clean and ready for food.  The place was full of locals which always is a great indication of the food taste and price.

They serve breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices.  Today we ate lunch and I had one of their daily Blue Plate Specials of Country Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes with White Gravy, Butter Beans, Roll and a slice of Lemon Cake.  $13

Everything was very good as expected.  The steak was deep fried and a little crunchy which I like.  This was an out of the bag steak, but seasoned well and cooked right.  The Mashed Potatoes were instant (which I prefer) and cooked perfectly with moisture left in them and not dried out like many places.  The white gravy was also prepared great.  It's consistency was perfect and it was piping hot.

The Butter Beans were very good as well.  The seasoning made me think of Mom and Home.  They were also cooked where they were a little soft (perfect) and the flavor was throughout.

Almost everything in the restaurant comes out of a box or can from what I can tell, but they know how to season and prepare it.

Nothing fancy, but if you are looking for good cooked food, I recommend Port City Café.
