Description: Colt BBQ & Spirits is a relatively new place just opened in Foley, AL.  They are an Arizona based company that has several other locations in Arizona.  The place has a nice upscale curb appeal with nice signage and an active smoker outside the front door.  Once you enter it appears as a nice restaurant with a large wrap around the building bar.  The décor is western with large cowhide looking stools.  The overall environment felt very comfortable.

With the mid-upscale look of the place, I was surprised to find out that the only way to get full service is to sit at the bar.  To sit at a table, you order your food from what looks like a hostess station and then you sit at a table.  Your food and drinks are brought to you, but the ordering process just seemed odd for the look of the place.

We were promptly met by a friendly bartender and was served our typical Bacardi and water quickly.  The menu has a good selection of various BBQ selections with a wide variety of sides.  We were not planning on eating but decided to split the Hot Link Hoagie.  This is a Hoagie with Housemade smoked turkey sausage, grilled bell peppers and onions with a chipotle ranch.  The advertise this as "medium" heat. $12.00  We were asked if we would like fries with that which we did.

The food was delivered in about 10 minutes and was nice a hot.  As expected the Hoagie was very messy and unfortunately it was served on a paper based basket.  Knowing that someone will most likely need to cut and eat this with a fork at least partially made it seem very low end to have it served this way.  With the juices and sauce dripping from the Hoagie the paper became saturated and started falling apart.

The onions and peppers were grilled perfectly and had a great flavor.  The chipotle sauce had a smokey flavor.  Unfortunately the Housemade Turkey Sausage had no flavor and was very dry.  If they call this a medium heat, I need to order XXX hot because it was mild at best.  I asked for extra crisply fries.  They came out hot and almost crispy, but were good enough.

The Hoagie was fairly inexpensive $12, but when I received my check I was very surprised to see a charge of $5.75 for fries.  It was a generous amount of fries, but the way I was asked if I wanted them I thought they were included with the price.

Bottom Line: We enjoyed the service and the comfortable environment.  We did not enjoy the food flavor.  If you want full service, sit at the bar.  I spoke with several other people while there and they were raving on the BBQ.  I think maybe we picked the wrong menu item for us.  We currently are not going to recommend this place, but we will go back in the future and try something different.
