Description: On our second attempt to visit this restaurant we finally got in.  The building and location is about a 1/2 mile down from their old popular spot.  It is a brand new facility and is very well laid out with sprawling outside open air dining, covered outside dining and a large inside dining room.  The inside dining area and the covered outside dining both have full service bars.  The water view off the back deck adds a bit if relaxation that is hard to get in the busy coastal Alabama area.

The restaurant is locally know for steaks and fresh seafood.  They were shucking oysters at the outside bar so you know those are fresh!

We went on Valentines day fully not expecting to get in, but we were there around 2:00 PM so we thought we might have a shot.  As we approached there was probably 30-40 people sitting around outside and I heard one say it was a 45 minutes to 1 hour wait time.  We decided to try and get a chair at either bar.  The inside bar had no room, but 2 people were just getting up as we approached the outside bar.  SCORE!

The entire place was wall to wall people for the holiday, but we were greeted and served cocktails within 8 minutes.  We browsed the menu and found it to have several choices and not as expensive as I thought it would be.  I ordered a lunch Shrimp Platter.  You can have it fried, grilled or blackened.  I ask for it HEAVILY blackened as I do like a bit of spice and seasonings.  Sheila spotted one of her favorite items a Muffaletta.  You can get a half or a whole one.

As busy as they were I was pleasantly surprised that we received our food in 19 minutes.  The presentation of my Shimp Platter was pretty basic, so no extra points for show.  The shrimp were pretty small which you can see in the picture and not very blacked.  I ordered them heavily blacked.  I actually prefer smaller shrimp so the size was not an issue and with me being older it was plenty to fill me up.  I know it is not shrimp season, so I did not expect "fresh" seafood, but the shrimp had a slight freezer taste to me.  However, they had a good overall flavor.  The lunch came with 2 sides.  I picked Fries and Fried Green Tomatoes. The fries were battered fries which is not one of my favorites.  I never understand why restaurants don't just serve natural cut fries. The Fried Green Tomatoes were wonderful.  They were lightly battered and cooked perfectly.  The meal also came with 1 hushpuppy.  It was a little overcooked, but the flavor was really good.  Their cocktail sauce was obviously made inhouse and had a great flavor.  In addition to some horseradish I believe they added a touch of Tabasco to it.  IT had just the right amount of heat.

Sheila's Muffaletta was enormous.  It was piled high with meat and had Salami, Mortadella, Ham, Provolone & Olive Salad on Gambinos Muffuletta bun.  It also came with fries.  Sheila really liked the sandwich and commented it was the best she has had in Alabama.  You just cannot beat Gambino bread and I'm betting the olive salad was from City Grocery.  If not, it sure tasted like it.  She had about 1/4 of it and we took the rest home.  But…we went bar hopping and forgot it in the car that night.

Bottom Line: We do recommend that you stop by and try  Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar.  If the weather is nice sit outside for a better relaxed experience.  Drinks are a little pricey, but you expect that at this type of an establishment.
