Description:
What a great little spot. This bar, grill, and music venue opened about six months ago. It’s only open Thursday through Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to midnight, but it’s worth the trip.
Located on the east side of a small strip mall, it’s easy to miss their sign. Look for the large LIQUOR sign on the business next door.
We arrived around 2:20, and only about eight people were inside. Through the front door, we found a cozy dining area with several long tables, a bar, and a good-sized stage set up with a full drum kit and multiple guitars. The large tables felt a little unusual at first, but they made sense later. We sat at the bar in comfortable chairs and were greeted right away by the bartender. We ordered our usual Bacardi and water, and the drinks were well made in the tall glasses we requested.
The place has a small but interesting menu with most of the basics you’d expect. We split a hot ham and cheese sandwich ($12.00). After a short wait, our friend Aniston, AKA “Moon Pie,” surprised us by bringing it out. The sandwich was loaded with ham and served nice and hot. I requested American cheese, which was melted and gooey just as it should be. It came with fries that were hot but otherwise nothing special—medium, unseasoned fries straight from the freezer bag.
To our surprise, by around 2:50 the place was suddenly packed, with standing room only. The long tables were filled with groups that clearly enjoyed sitting together, and that’s when the setup made sense.
Around 3:15, a mixed-age group took the stage. I learned they were family and also owned the business. That day, they were performing three 90-minute shows with breaks in between. The first was a tribute to Merle Haggard, and they did a great job singing his songs while adding jokes, stories, and quick comments to keep things fun. Every singer was talented, showing impressive versatility, range, and personal touches that made the songs feel genuine while still making them their own. We had to leave after the first show, so we missed the Bluegrass/Country and Rock and Roll sets—but we’ll definitely be back.
Bottom Line: I strongly recommend Red Haven. The food is limited but good. The music was very entertaining and started early for us day drinkers. I recommend that you get there early or time the ending of sets to get a spot to sit.
