Description: Hattie's Restaurant's sign out front advertises Soul Food and every time we drove by the parking lot was jam packed.  Finally one day we decided to brave the crowds and give it a try.  The parking lot was full but we pulled into a spot that wasn't even really a parking spot but I thought it safe enough.  I was shocked when we entered the restaurant.  It was a large pretty sterile room and not at all what I expected from a "Soul Food" restaurant.  Also, the parking lot was full, but there were only about 4 tables with customers.  I can't imagine where all the people from 20 or 30 cars were.

We were seated pretty quickly, but never was asked for a drink order for over 15 minutes.  The menu was anything but soul food, but we found some specials that seemed attractive.  I selected Fried Pork Chops, Cornbread Dressing, Cornbread and Cucumber Salad.  Sheila selected a Salisbury Steak, Cornbread, Rice and Gravy, Fried Okra and Bacon Fried Cabbage.

After ordering, we waited over 50 minutes before we received our food.  (Remember there were only 4 tables) Our waitress kept walking by, but never said anything, never filled my empty water glass or Sheila's Diet Coke.  When the food finally arrived the real disappointment began.  Sheila's Salesbury Steak was overcooked, the Rice and Gravy was bland without much flavor, the Bacon Fried Cabbage was cold and had no flavor.  The cornbread was good, but cold.  The best thing was the frozen bag Fried Okra.

For my Fried Pork Chop lunch, the serving size was 2 boneless pretty good size chops.  As you can see by the picture they were over fried in old grease.  The taste was ok, but they were dry and the old grease made the breading taste not so okay.  The cornbread was good but cold.  The Cornbread Dressing was not Cornbread DRESSING at all.  It was bread based stuffing.  Stouffers from a box tastes better.  The Cucumber Salad was disappointing for me as well.  Typically these are sliced cucumbers, and onions with the dressing.  This was chopped cucumbers and onions which made it impossible for someone who hates onion to separate the 2.  Oh well.

Bottom Line: Unless there is a menu that I never was given, this is definitely NOT a Soul Food restaurant.  The service was horrible and the food was not much better.  We do NOT recommend Hattie's Restaurant.
