Description: Scuttlebutts Pub & Cocktails is located in the old downtown area of Foley, AL across from the city park where a lot of events are held.
We have been to it many times but only in the daytime. We found that the personality of the bar changes dramatically depending on the bartender on duty. Many times the canned music played by the bartender was really loud and varied from Hip Hop, Classic Rock and Country. Too often it was Hip Hop. The bartenders were very inexperienced to the point we felt we were training them with each visit and they seem to have a problem keeping daytime staff.
The bartenders are required to pour from a jigger, which is fine, but because the staff is so inexperienced they slow pour into the jigger and don't fill it up. They don't pour into the jigger over your glass, so they slowly move the jigger over to dump the liquor into your drink. On a really positive note, they almost always rinse the jigger with a glass sprayer attached to the bar so you don't get the taste of the last guys drink with yours. Very few bars do this. Another positive is they are not making your drinks over the ice bin (usually) so the ice does not taste like Fireball or other booze.
They have several TVs but unfortunately many of the bartenders don't know how to use them to get the game or something other than ESPN talking heads. They do have bartenders that have learned to address these issues overtime, but the moved to the much busier night shift.
All the staff have been very friendly and try hard. Since they are very slow in the daytime, the newness of the daytime staff is not a big deal, except for the short pours. The owners are very pleasant and go out of their way to speak with you and make you feel at home.
The physical bar itself is one step above a dive bar. Older split chairs, very unlevel floors. Even though the chairs are mostly older, they are far more comfortable than many places we have gone to. The bathrooms are exceptionally clean. There is a game room that has a couple of pool tables, soft tip electronic dart boards and other games. The bar itself is nonsmoking and non-vaping and there is a covered patio area if you need to smoke.
The clientele varies from blue collar to white collar folks.
Bottom Line: Scuttlebutts is a decent place to go. We have only gone in the daytime and it is usually pretty empty. I would recommend you try it and judge for yourself. Hopefully they will get the bartenders trained a bit better.
