Description: This is the 3rd location for The Country Gym. Their others are in Gulf Breeze (Midway), Milton and now here in the metropolis of Brewton, AL. I have to give them credit, there is not much happening in this town and they stuck their next out to establish a well needed Bar and Grill.
The building has a nice appearance from the outside and was definitely a restaurant before the bar & grill. As you enter you are in a dining area with pool tables. The bar and high top tables are through an entrance to your left. The bar is a little odd the way they have their liquor bottles displayed but it works. There are about 10 bar stools. There is a large covered patio with an outside bar (not open when we were there) The décor is very patriotic and rustic with military and first responders signage very evident.
We sat ourselves at the bar of course and were greeted in about 5 minutes. The bartender/waitress was very busy with several lunch tables. After about another 5 minutes we made our drink order and received a menu to view. We decided to split their Cheeseburgers with Fries $12.00.
The wait was very short, maybe about 12 minutes to receive our food. The burger was very thick as you can see by the pictures. We ordered it medium well and as you can see it was well done. The meat had a pretty heavy seasoning that tasted like a Weber or other grilling seasoning. To me it was overbearing and made a pretty good burger taste like nothing but seasoning. Sheila that the burger was very good as it was. (I guess you can't please everyone) The french fries were battered. Not my favorite, but a lot of people like them this way. Natural cut is the only way to go for me.
The overall experience was going pretty good until 2 young ladies came in and sat down a few chairs from us. They started off talking loud and obviously trying to be the cool kids. Then they got their phones out and started facetiming someone. The phone was load they were loud and totally obnoxious. Why do people think it is OK to talk on a speaker phone at a bar or restaurant. You are a rude idiot if you do.
Anyway, I made a comment to the bartender/waitress of how annoying and rude that was. She said she totally agreed, but proceeded to do nothing about it.
This made us shorten our time staying there. Instead of a second cocktail, we left.
Bottom Line: The Country Gym Bar and Grill, Brewton, AL has an overall good thing going. We were there at lunch hour and it seems definitely more of a restaurant than a bar. The burgers are large and a good value if you like a lot of meat seasoning. We do recommend stopping by and giving them a shot.
